Great success on the small pitch
On the Day of Hungarian Sport, the Hungarian University and College Sports Association and the MEFOB Organizing Committee held a small-pitch football tournament for the first time, in which Sport-Önként was represented alongside nine other teams.

Our team played through the highly intense matches without any substitutions, and not even the extreme weather conditions could stand in the way of our ultimate victory. The tournament was evaluated by our association’s president and the team’s head coach, Dávid Biró, as well as Dániel Szántó, who was named both top scorer and MVP of the event.

Dávid praised both the organizers and our team regarding the event: “I’m grateful to the Hungarian University and College Sports Association (MEFS) and the MEFOB organizers for envisioning this event. It was a great opportunity to spend a relaxed, enjoyable day with several of our partners, whom we had previously only met during work or events. Our team of volunteers and coordinators gave it their all during the matches, so it was never a question that we were aiming for the win. Although our biggest strength laid in our team spirit, I must highlight Dóri Farkas, who was the only female player on our team—and one of only two women in the whole tournament—as well as Dani Szántó, whose goals and playmaking were crucial to our success. We proudly hold onto the trophy and will return next year with renewed energy.”

Our team finished the group stage with three wins and one loss—only the team of the Hungarian Olympic Committee managed to beat us. There was no shortage of goals either: we scored 13 in the group stage and added another two in the semi-final and the final. Dani Szántó delivered thunderous shots, and by the end of the day, in addition to the championship trophy, he was also the named as the MVP. “This special award is just the icing on the cake for me,” said Dani. “The greatest experience was being able to represent Sport-Önként in a new role, in addition to my volunteer work. The matches were intense, and none of the teams took the competition lightly, which makes this victory even sweeter.”

Naturally, beyond the goals and the victory, teamwork played a key role—something Dani also emphasized: “From the first moment, it was clear that our team spirit wouldn’t be a problem, even though we had a completely new lineup. Everyone gave their best during the matches, and my individual award is largely thanks to my teammates’ strong performances. This just goes to show how the experiences we share at events forge such a great team. And after bringing home the trophy, I’ll just say: go Sport-Önként, see you at next year’s tournament!”

So now, our team moves forward as champions toward new adventures. If you’d like to take part next year—whether as a player or a supporter—join us at our upcoming events and get to know us better!
